STOP CRAIGSLIST ANIMAL ADS NOW!

Accountability.  It’s a good thing.  We all need to be responsible for our actions.  And likewise for actions for which we are directly responsible.  If we introduce two people and one kills the other on the first meeting, then we are certainly guilty in that there was no vetting on our part.

CraigsList, which banned its adult services ads when things went horribly wrong for a number of young women, is just as indirectly guilty for the torture of countless animals.

We need to pass legislation that will ban all advertising of animals for sale, or for “free to a good home,” on CraigsList.  All it will take is one state to pass a law.  If you are a representative of the people, if you are close to one, speak up, step up, do something…now, so that we never have to see another case like that of “Puppy Doe.”

Warning: this story is horrific.  But it must be seen, so these ads on CraigsList can be stopped.

Here is a link to contact CraigsList: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/feedback  FLOOD IT!  Tell them what you think of how animals offered up on their site are tortured.

You know who your representatives are.  One of the things we’ve learned from making A DOG NAMED GUCCI is that people in public service listen to their constituents.   Email.  Call.  Write a letter.  Pay them a visit.  Tell them you want all animal ads banned on CraigsList in your state.

Show them pictures of “Puppy Doe.”

We are the voice for animals.  It is our responsibility to do something.

Step Up.  Speak Up.  Do Something.

STOP CRAIGSLIST ANIMAL ADS NOW!

Make them accountable.

    why don’t you petition change.org

    • I believe writing directly to your representatives, and those in Boston where this horrible abuse occurred is the way to go. That is the way laws are passed. We put the politicians in office, and most of them do care what we want.

  3. I started a group on Facebook called FLAGGING Animal Sales on CraigsList, https://www.facebook.com/groups/F.Them/ .

I have to be honest. I feel like we failed.

    • Truly the way to start is to write not only to your representatives, but also to those in Boston where this horrible abuse occurred. That is the way laws are passed. We put the politicians in office, and most of them do care what we want.

WE need legislation to put in place a law to protect animals! There are too many people that are doing these things to animals…torturing…baiting them…etc. These people needed to be arrested and locked up permanently because the are future “SERIAL KILLERS”. It is proven that people start with animals and then do it to humans! Protect the animals…they need and deserve to have a life of love. Animals are like children…they give unconditional love. Please stop all your ads for Animals…they are being bought by these people that only want to do harm to them.

Craigslist, please stop letting people advertise on your page. there are some preverts that see this and just want to hurt the animals. I know you do not want to be apart of this animal cruelty.

about two years ago I made the mistake of putting my dog up for adoption on craigslist, I found what I thougth was a nice couple, they already had one dog that they walked daily and took care of, and made promises of keeping him and giving him a good loving home, even made a couple visits with their dog to see if they got along. When they first took him, they kept in contact like i had asked for about 2 months then lost all contact. I tried several times to get a hold of them, finally got a hold of the guy only to find out they had gotten rid of him and did not have any information on to who they had given my dog. I was sick to my stomach, I put an another ad on craigslist with his picture and his name asking if anyone knew anything about him, and surprisingly less than 24 hours I got a response, I found the poeple that had him, my old dog had jst passed away and I really wanted to make sure Rocko was in a good home so I asked for a visit. that only made it worse, He was underweight, dirty, had an infection in both ears, and smelled terrible. I waited about a month and texted the girl that had him asking if I could offer her money to get him back only to find out he was in the pound and she didnt have money to get him out. I went straight to the pound to bail him out, once I got there, they informed me he had been hit by a car, his ear was torn and a blood vessel burst in his eye, still dirty, skinny and infected ears, I gladly took him back home. I will never EVER even THINK about getting rid of him. the whole time he was gone I thought about him every day. No matter what people tell you on craigslist, unless you actually know them, odds are, they could be lying and have only malicious intent. do NOT sell or give away animals through craigslist. I regretted it, I still feel horrible that my Rocko had to go through 9 months of neglect because of me.

CraigsList already prohibits the sale of animals. Giving pets away for free should be prohibited as well. Too many of those animals end up like poor Puppy Doe, or in a research lab, or worse. People who absolutely need to re-home their pets should charge a re-homing fee and require a background check on all potential adopters. I can understand why people would choose to put their pets on CraigsList rather than dump them in a high kill shelter, obviously. They just need to be smarter about the way they go about doing it. Perhaps we should be organizing a campaign to educate the public instead.

    • Educating the public is also a good idea, but unless all animal ads are banned completely, they will never stop. A law banning these, just like a law banning pet shops from selling puppy mill dogs, is the way to stop it completely. Otherwise you will always have someone who says “they didn’t know.”
